Thanks Peter. Ballykelly was great. Not only was it my first tour, but it had four squadrons each with a dozen crews or more so lotsa blokes and great fun in the mess. I embraced 210 squadron with open arms as I loved its attitude. The rugby was also good fun. Then there was Wattisham. 56 Lightnings arrived two months after me, and they were also a great bunch. I did lots with them including a detachment to Germany to the Richthofen Geschwader. I was eventually made an "honourary" member of 56 - well, they gave me a squadron bow tie when they disbanded to be re-formed with the Phantom; it was a tremendous privilege to know them both. I had a bit of fun with the F4 navigators on the first squadron dining in night. I'd heard that they were referred to as "the chimps down the back" so I drew a cartoon of a Phantom with bananas replacing the under wing tanks. Even navs/chimps need grub sometimes !! :-D

Nothing changes. The back seat WSOs are still seen as ballast weights. How to make friends and influence people.....:)

Nah! If only. I spent most of my off duty time stalking and shooting as one usually meets a better looking bird!!

I have just discovered this site, and have found it very interesting. As they say, nostalgia ain't what it used to be! It's nice (mostly) to find reminders of a world long since gone.
