Hi,

I'm John and spent 12 years in the RAF from 1970 to 1982. Most of my time was spent at RAF Henlow on Ground Radio Installation Squadron mainly installing/recovery of airfield equipment. best job I ever had in the RAF!

Now I'm nearing retirement whilst working at Vertu in Hampshire.

Hi John, Welcome to the forum. Today on my travels I was at Henlow, Arlesey, Clifton and Meppershall, places that you may know well. It's a nice area (I think) Do you have any photographs to show of your time there?
On my first-ever vist around here I stopped to ask someone; ''Which way is Arseley'' He laughed, corrected me, then pointed me in the right direction.

Hi All,
My name is Jan and I'm a Yorkshire lass through and through.
I'm hoping that someone can help me on this forum or point me in the right direction. Renovating our home in Driffield, on removing a fireplace we found letters and a photograph for a Flight Lt. Moran who was once based here in Driffield.
The black and white photo is of 36 male an female officers and is entitled 'no 59 O.A.T.S Course, 28th May - 20th July, 'B' group.
It looks like the photo/training was taken at Hunstanton.
I would like to return this, and the letters of what I think is an important piece of family history to its rightful place, or to a place where the history of the photo will be appreciated.
Failing that, I want to at least know that I have done justice to the flt lt in the photo by researching and learning more about him and potentially put the photograph up on display in my home, which, was once his.
I would love to hear from anyone who can help
Thanking you in advance
Jan

Jan: Welcome to AiX.

If the photo was taken at Hunstanton, it suggests that it was taken during the period that the OATS was at Bircham Newton, Norfolk, just a few miles from Hunstanton. It was there over the period October 1948 to 1962.

Regards

Bill

I'm new to the site, so a quick intro. I'm an RAF ATCO with 35+ years of service and I'm currently writing a history of the RAF Air Traffic Control Specialisation.
