I live on the far North Coast of NSW in Australia. A retired school teacher. I did serve 9 years as a Signalman in the Royal Australian Navy - I am hoping you won't hold that against me.
I am interested in tracking the footsteps my father made as he made his way across parts of Europe during WWII. As a Flt Sgt in the Servicing Commandos he worked at advanced airfields. I would like to know a bit about these airfields. Looking at my father's service records and other sources he appeared to have spent some time at the following airfields.
OPERATION TORCH
Maison Blance and Blida in Algeria
Souk el Arba and Ghardimaou in Tunisia

OPERATION HUSKY
Cosimo in Sicily

OPERATION AVALANCHE
Montalbano, Barlella and Bari in Italy
Borgo, Alto and Calvi in Corsica

OPERATION DRAGOON
Marignane in France

After his unit disbanded late 1944 he was transferred to HQ(U) 231 wing and sent to Tortorello near Foggia In Italy.

I sent an email to the Woodland Trust a coule of weeks ago regarding the plaque. I received an automated reply saying they would get back to me. Apparently they are pretty busy with some tree dieback disease at the moment.

Cheers
Tony
