My name is John Davidson (Foggy) I am Vice Chairman of The Aeroplane Collection and Secretary of the Friends of MOSI. I am also involved with BAPC imputting images to the National Aviation Heritage Register.
Altho' I now live in darkest deepest Devon (Torquay- home of Basil Fawlty etc)....my main interest is in airfields in Hampshire, Dorset and IoW....in particular Christchurch Aerodrome (originally in Hants but the site is now in Dorset).
I expect you are aware of my Hampshire Airfields site(There is a page on Chattis Hill) at www.hampshireairfields.co.uk/
You can also download a free 250 page book(PDF File) I have complied about Christchurch Aerodrome 1926-1970 at
I don't know of any still existing large hangars that you would be able to use....but instead may I offer the suggestion of caves- there are some large caverns at places such as Cheddar or Kent's Caverns in Torquay and they certainly echo but may not be large enough (assuming you got the necessary permissions) to have a long enough echo for your purposes.
Other places worth considering are empty churches (there are quite a few of those in cities now) or empty warehouses.
