I'm Jon and I live on what is now "The Hobbins" the old married airmans quarters of RAF Bridgnorth. Being born in the town ive always known of the old site but since moving up here 6 years ago made my interest grow more and more. I'm now interested in all Old RAf bases.
I've recently assisted with the organising of the 50th celebration March for the closure.
Welcome bighed, hope you enjoy the forum, I worked on the houses at the hobbins in the 80s when they still belonged to Raf Cosford as MQs. I was working for a painting contractor, which at the time was Appletons, then HAT and now Mitie, but still the same blokes that were told to WOODCHIP all rooms to cover all the cracks before being sold off.
Regards Ian
Hi there,
My Dad was a pilot with XI Squadron at Miho and occasionally Iwakuni from 6.12.1946 - 5.11.1947 flying Spitfire Mk XIV's. Flying Officer Alan Carter 202006.
Sadly, he died in September last year, but I have inherited all his old photos and his flying log book which is adorned with many more photos!
I'll post his pics on here for your perusal, many of them showing visiting US and RAAF aircraft.
I have just retired myself from a career in aviation, having been an Air Traffic Controller at Manchester Airport and Centre, and latterly Prestwick Centre when MACC closed - I think I was bitten by the bug too!
