I have recently joined and my main interests are local to East Anglia, WWII/Post-war era but also interested in WWI plus pre-war airfields.
I have a particular interest in two airfields which are the former RAF Coltishall and RAF Binbrook due to their connections with both the Gloster Javelin and E.E Lightning.
I spent many years at both plane spotting and photographing the aircraft as much as I could despite the restrictions back in the day.
I intend to be as active as I can be with the limited time I have at present.
Looking forward to this new adventure.

I was pointed in the direction of this forum and group by one of the team that was at Waddington yesterday.
I live in Stoke and grew up on what used to be Meir aerodrome and heard rumours abound of lots of buried equipment left over from the war. Shame I have never been able to find any concrete proof of this or else I would be a very rich chap indeed.
My main interests are the defence of the airfields. (further sparked by picking up the book 'Airfield Defences' from the ARG stand yesterday) and Cold War Civil Defence plans.
Anyhow I look forward to seeing what I can learn on the forum.
Welcome Gaz. I doubt anyone seriously believes any buried aircraft stories. Where they do turn up something it is bits of aircraft. I too find the Cold War period of Civil Defence interesting but I am trying not to get diverted. I used to here the sirens being tested in the 60s and as they had one not far from our house they were quite loud. I seem to recall they were upgraded in the 70s as flood warnings (compressed air?) and as I went to school in Woolwich it was in a risk area. I also use to play on the Civil Defence Bunker at Kemnal in Chislehurst in SE London (or NW Kent). It didn't last long and was derelict by then (1964/5).

Welcometo AiX Gaz. It used to be difficult to find information about Meir airfield but that has been fixed with the publishing of articles in the Airfield Review.
Since you are interested in Defence you should have the Defence of Britain database which gives you thousands of Placemarks as KMZ files for use on Google Earth:

PNK I can't imagine what it was like hearing the sirens being tested or even living in that period of the Cold War. I mean the whole thing was over before I was even out of nappies.
My great uncle was Robert Macintosh who flew with H. E. Hervey and is mentioned in Cage Birds. I would really like to obtain a copy of the book as I've been searching for one for forty years now! Can anyone help
