Hi Peter. Thanks for the welcome.
Other postings rather routine I'm afraid.
A week at Cardington walking about in dwindling civilian suiting as each item was exchanged for uniform.
Eight weeks Bridgenorth where the mats froze to the floor.
Four weeks Compton Bassett where I remember Radio Compton Bassett
playing repetitions of Catch a Falling Star and Magic Moments.
Then Medmenham where the RAF Rowing Club kept my National Service days occupied.
No exciting overseas postings but like so many here, memories I treasure warmly.

Where you selected to go to Compton B and Medmenham on the basis of previous knowledge/occupation or did you do speciality training at CB? NAtional Service benefited some and disrupted others!

Not previous occupation. (I was an actor). So the posting to Compton Bassett was for trade training.
As I recall (though I had nothing to compare it to) the training was very thorough and well organised
and concentrated not least on keeping the trainees interested.

Based on some photos from SCRAN, books and around the net, and constrained by my personal economy, we have started a 50 x 40 x 14 planked technical shed for the Sopwith and a yet to be built hangar mate. Will try to find a 1915 or so Model T as well to go with the dispatch office, which is modeled on the Stow Maries Pilot ready room.

Hello, just thought i'd introduce myself. My name is Andy, and i'm an Australian with British ancestry. I stumbled upon this site after researching Langar Airfield. I'm going to look around here and hopefully find some answers to WW2 Langar, particularly the operations of Avro Anson, the company my Grandfather was foreman for during and after the war.

My name is Dave Wickwar, I was a member of the DFS (AFDFS & AFS) for almost 30 years. I was stationed at Thorney Island, Tangmere, Greenham Common, Marchwood, & Donington. Also did many detachments, which included Manston CTE, West Rainham, Northholt, Abingdon, Odiham, Cottismore. My interests are RAF crash trucks prior to the MK 9 and TACR2 practically the MK 6. I was a Mk 6 driver during the 1970s I also have an interest WW2 airfields.
