90 Group was what RAF Medmenham was during my two years there 1958-59. The station was elevated to Signals Command late in 58 but I didn't get any more pay.
I'm Terry Sharkey for any one who may remember.
I was the lone male among 24 WRAF lovelies in the Signals Section of PMBX1As and chattering Creed machines and punched tape. Do they still send those Christmas messages of pictures of made of xxx's I wonder. I recall a very artistic HM The Queen, another one with Father Christmas in a Spitfire. A third, Micky Mouse in Flying Helmet doing something rather rude to Minnie, was not so seasonal but still found room on W.O. Steven's wall in that converted stable block in Danesfield House.

Many will know that after purchase by Carnation Milk in the late seventies Danesfield is now an Hotel. I went there last week and visited the old PBX where builders have just stripped the plaster and are converting it to a bedroom. There in the concrete floor was the clear markings of the five position switchboard which must have been removed many years ago. Odd tingles, and perhaps I didn't imagine those echoing voices round the high mullioned windows of what must have been in its day very smart stabling.

For those who care, the Dog and Badger is still there down the road. Doesn't have three different priced bars now. All knocked into one, and more a restaurant than a pub. But then I look in the mirror and see time has changed me too.
But not, I'm glad to say, those 24 WRAF lovelies. Well not in my mind anyway.

Welcome to AiX grosvenor, and thanks for the personal reminiscence of Medmenham. I do remember the cartoons made up on teletype machines using the letter x and skilful spacing and may even have one or two in my personal effects boxed for over a decade. Where else did you serve?

Last time I was up there RAF Acklington was a big hole in the ground and when I got back south the weather was so hot I nearly passed out on the trains a few times, many girls did though. Thanks for that. yeah Acklington is now a prison. Nothing left apart from a couiple of pillboxes and a large hanger which now is home to some dodgey geezers.

HaHa, They are funny creatures, "wives". Though mine is not interested in detecting, but she is interested in what I find. I think she wouldn't enjoy the hobby because it means being on her own. She's a very social person. With regards to your's, encourage her to go out, if the bug gets her she will be out of your hair for hours at a time.. Good luck.
