Just joined and am putting a few words together. Served for 37 Yrs and more or less have been all over the place stretching from Hong Kong to Fairbanks, Andoya to Costa Rica including the Med Units, Not forgetting Singapore/Malaysia and Bermuda. Some rough postings in my time. Main interest is Photography and trying to keep the little lady happy.
I notice that you mention a posting to Hong Kong, I don't suppose you ever heard any stories about the Battle Box, underneath HQLF in Victoria Barracks while you were there did you? I am trying to build up a picture of exactly what went on in there in the mid 1950s as my husband served there as a national serviceman, I know that it was all highly secret so finding out more is extremely difficult, even people in Hong Kong did not know the exact location of the Battle Box when the area was redeveloped.
My husband was in the Army in G (Int) but RAF and Navy personal were in the Battle Box too.
Hello everyone - I live in Essex, and work with a team of friends on WW2 research in our local area.
We are currently researching four incidents in the Braintree District involving USAAF aircraft from Sudbury and Kimbolton, and the loss of a Polish pilot from Andrewsfield, Gt Saling.
We have gained quite a lot of information from the Essex Records Office, and the internet - but with everything we find, there comes another set of questions!
Will take a wander through the threads, see if there's anything we can share, or anything that might help us.
Thank you!
