There were three Starfish sites just south of Warrington - Hatton, Arley and Appleton. No remains are known to exist though there are a couple of building remains in the area of the Appleton decoy, one of which might have been a control structure. On private farmland near to the former 'Northern Radar' site.
Warrington Research Library didn't have info on them when I asked a few years ago. Lancashire/Cheshire ROs may have info that was transferred from Warington in the early 1970s

Wasn't Northern Radar at Lindholme, South Yorkshire?

Yes it was. I presume tigger means Antrobus, the navy (later civil) radar site near Stretton. I can't remember what its callsign was.

Hi,

I've joined this site as I'm running some documentary on Norfolk airbases, more specifically, West Raynham, Coltishall, Neatishead, Sculthorpe. Really interested in learning from people that worked on these sites and including some of their verbatim. This is not for profit, I have a significant interest in the history of such places and travel Europe viewing them in their current shape.

Right now, I am working through the images of West Raynham and have some questions - hopefully some kind person here might help. Happy to share some images of it in its current state.

Kind regards

Dave

I do indeed mean Blackcap's RADAR site - which became the world's first joint military and civil ATC centre with the callwords 'Northern Radar'.

Hi thank you for this. I have been to Kew several times on other trails but didn't realise that this type of information was available. I will order up a copy.

There is also a postwar report on the decoy system available for download at this site for about £15. It's typrewritten pages but has lots of illustrations in the scanned pages and has maps showing sites.

Martin, do the illustrations include any of the sites around Warrington? I know the locations, so the maps are unlikely to be of interest.
