The 'Introduce yourself' Thread

Hello. I'm Tony Waites,former airfield electrician at Manchester Airport. A few years ago I rescued and restored to working condition an "Airway Beacon" from the airport. It was made by Chance Brothers of Smethwick. It is now in the "Concorde" hangar in the viewing park. During the restoration I did quite a bit of research on it and other early airfield lighting equipment of the period. I hope I can be of assistance to anyone.

Welcome to AiX Tony. Quite a few members here share an interest in airfield lighting and fixtures so your expertise will be useful.

Just finished the 'Scottish Aerodromes of the First world War' - Excellent reference, except had to go elsewhere for details of the ghost stories! Highly recommended if one would like a very well organized description of the development of these early Aerodromes.

Thank you. Yes I did notice that section which will be really helpful to my reaserch. I haven't yet come accross memorials to enemy airmen but thats something i will definitly look into. Memorials to the enemy invoke many questions about the purpose of memorials and what they stand for.

Hi to you, as you will be aware, Kent is a County with many aviation memorials, non more so than the National Memorial to the Few at Capel le Ferne. As a Trustee of this Memorial I am very proud of it. Welcome.
