I am starting the research for my second WWII novel and found these forums through Google. I am specifically looking for information regarding Tangmere during WWII, inasmuch as familiarizing myself with its operations as a Lysander base to transport agents back and forth to France by SOE.
In December 2012, my husband and I literally stumbled onto Tangmere by sheer accident (I couldn't believe my luck, as we were - sort of - lost getting back to Southampton...) and I realized at once that this was the airfield I'd read about.
I am now compiling my notes on Tangmere during the war and have already read many interesting posts from members of these forums.

Have you read 'We Landed by Moonlight' by Hugh Verity ?
He was a Lysander pilot...a very readable book.
There is also 'Black Lysander' by John Nesbitt Dufort,who was also a special duties pilot.
There is of course much misinformation on the net about the SOE ops at Tangmere,but it really was the typical British 'shoestring' + underplayed operation.

Just joined after 'lurking' around for a little while. The main reason for joining is that I am planning to put together a braille scale diorama of a generic RAF Bomber Command airfield in WW2 after being inspired by Lanclad's RAF Grimsby diorama over on the Airfix Tribute Forum. I'm 55 now but have been Airfix/Army Barmy from about 8 years old. I served in the Queen's Regiment/Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment and was a member of the Anti-Tank Platoon for many years, this actually rekindled my interest in modelling (which had lapsed) to produce AFVs for recognition purposes. I now model the occasional 1/35 British armour and have a collection of over 200 1/72 diecast aircraft (currently fulfiling the role of loft insulation until my eldest son finally decides to fledge the nest and I can display them properly) I also enjoy old British B&W movies - war/thrillers and comedies. Looking forward to adding my two pennyworth when and where I can!
