Welcome to AiX baba. That Username has connotations. It is (phonetically) the name given to medieval Korean Kings and Princes. The Thai name for 'crazy' is 'baba bawbaw' so I am sure you will stick with the first!

Joking aside, the Norfolk E-Explorer site has nice 1946 aerial coverage of Ludham airfield, just go here:

www.historic-maps.norfolk.gov.uk/mapexplorer/

You will need to type Ludham in the Search box and select the 1946 imagery in the LH window by 'sliding' the available imagery offers upwards. Don't forget to click on the ON/OFF switch.

Cor - ! 'Pongo'- Haven't heard that term in YEARS - ! Come to that, the Navy were also known as the 'Andrew'. Was there a similar group slang for the RAF - ?

Can you keep your eye out for the hulk of the Hamilcar tank carrying glider the RAF left out there in 1949? Should be somewhere around the old RAF Shaibah.

In my RAF days the FAA boys called us 'crabs' and would make hissing sounds and scuttle sideways! We called them 'fisheads'. But we had one thing in common - aircraft.

Her Majesty's Royal Air Force were always known as crabs by the Air Corps. When we had an exchange RAF pilot on the squadron he was often referred to as 'Flight Lieutenant Walksideways-Crab', all part of the professional esteem thinly disguised as contempt for which every squadron/ship/regiment/department/division/tradegroup holds for all the others.
