Hey Malcolm makes no difference to us if your ex-army. We will show you the greatest of respect whovever you are or what ever service you served under. Welcome to AiX!
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
Hi Theo, I think you'll find alot of info on the various airfield threads regarding control towers, I have hundreds myself from many hours driving round the country! There are alot more to visit and see an it will be a task to see them all. Plenty to find on AiX to help you navigate around and find what you want. As has been said before, just be careful you do not tresspass on private property, over here its not welcomed!
Good luck with the project and let us all know how it progresses. Be good to see some of your photos on the forum too.
Well Tigger, We publish 'Frituur Zorro' photobooks about commercial use of WWll soft-skin trucks in the seventies. It is a huge succes, so we have financial means to take the risk. Also, it is a long term investment just like Frituur Zorro. When the towers are gone it is even more valuable. We are professioinal photographers, so the quality will be outstanding.
Hi Guys,
I am a local and Manston is in SE Kent! there is a group who have decided that they want it shut but they are becoming a minority. the News that KLM are to start flights to Amsterdam next year is great and I for one hope it will succeed. I live about half a mile from the runway so I see the comings and goings.
cheers
John
Hi All,
if I have already done this I am sorry, its an age thing. currently researching Family Dad was an LTI at RAF Binbrook and was married at Louth Church By Binbrooks chaplain to a WAAF from Derby. jan 1943, dad's service record is not very clear and I have had to send it to the AHB for interpretation.
cheers
john
Similar projects here have struggled. Would be good to see a photographic record of every remaining Watch Office though as mentioned earlier in the thread it's a shame you aren't doing that.
