The 'Introduce yourself' Thread

Hi guys and galls.
I'm trying to trace info on my wife's birth mother, on the birth certificate it states she was a canteen supervisor at "Staverton Bridge Hostel" in 1953. We have a copy of the electoral register of "Staverton" of this time stating the hostel but we are struggling to find any other reference to its location or its purpose. I was wondering whether it had anything to do with the airfield as at the time research and development on the gloster jet aircraft was taking place.

Hi Pete, I'd have thought the Records Office for Gloucestershire would be the best route to finding out about the hostel as you've drawn a blank with Staverton Parish Council.

Not sure who runs that Hostel website you've linked but it is amongst the worst designed websites I've ever looked at.

I've been lurking in the shadows for some time,looking through the pages.I decided to join after I met a chap who goes by the name of REF(founding member I believe) at The Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation museum in may time ish.

At current I'm a singleton explorer as I can't find anyone who enjoys looking round old airfields,so if I could tag along with anyone please let me know,

not a great deal on the Pantechnicon,my favourite is the Mammoth major,for the Pantechnicon I have a copy of the RAF data sheet with dimensions, for the Hippo I have a Data Sheet and 1/76 scale drawings of a ballast tractor for the Z Trailer (also data sheet and scale drawing) saw an old thread with a colour picture from Ted Angus showing the hippo Mk2 and pantechnicon on here and was suitably impressed.
Forgot to say in my intro think another reason for RAF vehicles as an interest was as a kid my uncle ran a local disabled club in Washington and my dad drove the Ford Transit Mini bus, but I loved being in "the big bus" as it was known in the family,which was an ex-RAF Bedford Sb the same as the BD bus you had,loved the sound smell of that old girl sadly never got a photo.
It was sold in late 80s and replaced by a Wadham bodied Dodge D50 just wasnt the same.
I would love a scale model of one of those remember it had been fitted with a tail lift for wheelchairs and used to rattle like mad on long journeys, used to laugh at the old dears complaining " ooh listen to that bloody noise" lol oh happy days.

Yes, it had to cope with dirty airmen at the end of a shift so the vinyl upholstery on the seats was 'wipe clean'
