Hi Toby,

I am sure I know you from somewhere, I currently live in darkest Shropshire. I flew from Snitterfield with the Stratford Gliding Club, and Long Marston before that. I wrote a book on Snitterfield and its parent station, Church Lawford.
I am currently part of a group at RAF Shawbury building a Horsa and Waco troop carrying gliders.
The Horsa is getting towards completion, work has started on the wing tips.

And now I am going to ask something really stupid. But how do I post a new thread? I want to post one or two pix up, but can't find any button which says 'post new thread' or anything like that. I've searched, honest. I can see the button to reply to threads. Help!

Navigate to the bulletin board section you want to post in and up towards the top left there will be the button you need...it's in the same position as the "Reply to thread" button you'll see at the top of this page.

I'm afraid I don't have a site plan for Staverton which would show all the RAF buildings and the exact air ministry land boundary but from an aerial photograph I found and a small diagram it would appear that yes, the Nissan huts to the immediate east of the road were part of the RAF airfield. However, the hostel huts which, I believe, are the white "H" formed ones where Herrick Way/Close are where build post-war specifically as a Hostel and weren't part of the airfield at all.

Also, I noticed in the link in your first post there is a request for information on the Cross Hands Hostel. I believe this is where the Cheltenham Chase Hotel now stands on the east of the Shurdington Road. Again, you can see the huts in the Google Earth 1945 images and they are the same H form as the ones at Staverton Bridge.

I've been to the Gloucestershire Archives and it's a friendly place and you can take a camera with you to photograph documents if you can't afford the photocopier.
