Essentially there are two ways to add your photos:

1 - include a link to an image on a photo-hosting site (such as photobucket, flickr etc)
2 - upload the photo on here and insert as an attachment.

We prefer people to use the first method as it places considerably less loading on our host.

If you upload the pictures to a photo-hosting site they conveniently produce the necessary links for you to copy and paste into a post on here.

For the second method REF produced a guide ( /community/showthread.php?3-Image-posting )

Whichever you decide there are plenty of people on here who will go out of their way to help and you can feel free to use the personal message (pm) facility on here to contact me.

Some other bit's and bobs for info.

Looked at some old Ordnance Survey Maps.

1955 - Site listed as "Staverton Bridge Industrial Hostel"
1968 - As above.
1975 - Now listed as "Hostel (disused)". Caravan park built.
1984 - As above.
1991 - Site demolished and Technology Park built.

Reference to it in Hansard: hansard.millbanksystems.com/commons/1949.../19/hostel-staverton

Also searching the PRO archives for "national service hostel" between 1940 and 1980 turns up a load of documents.

Finally two photos. One an aerial of the disused hostel site from 1975 and another I found of the inside of the main hall, May 1945, from an eBay auction (which I PM'd the link to you).

Welcome to AiX Tally Ho.

We have extensive coverage of WW2 (and some post-war) aviation fuel depots and any detail from your travels would be welcome.

I did do a self-published book about Shropshire airfields a few years ago incorporating the stuff I've collated over time. One day, finances allowing, I'll update it, so I'm interested in keeping tabs on how things are changing on the ground and anything new that comes to light.

Welcome to AiX Toby, I have seen your name associated with Shropshire airfields a number of times and I have a copy of your book too. Its great to see you on AiX.

Also, from time to time people show me pictures of planes and airfields from outside Shropshire. For instance, a few weeks ago I spoke to a chap in his 80s whose father served at Hawkinge at the end of, or just after the end of, the First World War and he had a collection of photos which seem to have been taken there (anyone with an interest in Hawkinge circa 1920, feel free to get in touch. The gentleman was happy for me to offer the pix - I took digital copies of course, not his precious originals - to a museum or interested parties.

If you can, would you consider donating a copy to the Airfield Research Groups Archives?

I did email the BoB museum at Hawkinge but have not had any reply as yet).

Good luck with them, I have had nothing but bad experiences there. One of the most unfriendly museums I have ever experienced.

As time allows, I'll hope to post up some of the pix I have.

I look forward to seeing them.

All the best

Richard
