Please when you get chance contact me, as the lead researcher on the former ATA RLG at Barton-Le-Clay establishing a link with Air Transport Auxiliary Association could be mutually beneficial.

As a side note I have to say I have thoroughly disappointed with Maidenhead Heritage Centre, they seam more than happy to continually pass on tv/media researchers to me looking for information about the RLG but after numerous emails and a few phone calls they have so far helped us with diddly squat... in fact I don't think they have actually replied to a single email ever! Needless to say if we could establish a direct working relationship with the ATAA may be we could save what is left of the site, educate the local residents to its past and get a suitable memorial established in the future.

how interesting, didn't realise it was used as a transit camp for Pow's. Was the camp within the confines of the airfield. Looking at the photo do you think the Hostel was used by workers from the hanger shown. On Google earth it shows the area to be northeast of the airfield what was this side of the airfield used for.

I am the Secretary of North Coates Flying Club, I think the last time we met was when you flew HBBC in to the airfield. The runway was taken up some years ago now we replaced it with a 660 metre grass strip which is continously in use. There are roughly 30 aircraft beased here now ranging from Microlights to the heavier Group A tourers we even have a replica Spitfire and a scale Se5a in addiiton to some really classic aaircraft such as the Chrysler Super Ace and Miles Gemini We hold four annual events a year, the next one is on September 8th & 9th, on average movements a years top 1200. We have also taken great care to record the heritage of the airfield and have developed a Heritage room to show the history of this historic site.

Hi, I'm Toby Neal and I am a journalist in Shropshire who deals a lot with local history and "nostalgia", so naturally I come in contact a lot with older people and their memories.
Over the years I've done various things about the airfields of Shropshire which are of course a fascinating aspect of local history. My father was a fighter pilot in the Fleet Air Arm, and served briefly at RNAS Hinstock in the summer of 1943, before joining 1839 Squadron the following November at Eglinton and serving in the Far East.
I did do a self-published book about Shropshire airfields a few years ago incorporating the stuff I've collated over time. One day, finances allowing, I'll update it, so I'm interested in keeping tabs on how things are changing on the ground and anything new that comes to light.
Also, from time to time people show me pictures of planes and airfields from outside Shropshire. For instance, a few weeks ago I spoke to a chap in his 80s whose father served at Hawkinge at the end of, or just after the end of, the First World War and he had a collection of photos which seem to have been taken there (anyone with an interest in Hawkinge circa 1920, feel free to get in touch. The gentleman was happy for me to offer the pix - I took digital copies of course, not his precious originals - to a museum or interested parties. I did email the BoB museum at Hawkinge but have not had any reply as yet). Others I see are from unidentified places. I'm conscious that images like these are in danger of being lost as generations fade away.
As time allows, I'll hope to post up some of the pix I have.

Any information you'd like to share would be very welcome on here. I always find the personal stories of particular interest, they add volumes to the history of the places. The members here have a good track record at identifying unknown airfield locations from photographs and always enjoy the challenge.
