Hi everybody - casual browsing brought me to this site which awakened
considerable interest since I lived near Kingstown in the war years. Many thanks to Topper for bringing back memories of those times, particularly by way of detailing various aircraft and homely incidents.

My memories are of the constant purring of Tiger Moths overhead on their
training circuits only a few hundred feet up with the pilots clearly visible as
they banked. On one exciting day my friend and I got to the edge of the airfield through Kingmoor Woods, were both astounded to see one ticking over right in front of us and received a cheery wave from the instructor in the rear cockpit. That made a five year old's day I can tell you!

Welcome Daniel, recently there was discussion in one of our threads on airfield paving at Radlett 'though I can't remember a final answer.

I hope that your paving solutions help prolong the lives of some of our WW2 airfields.

Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum. I note that LaFarge own Blue Circle Industries and Redland plc, is there a comprehensive history of the company available? The history of companies involved in the construction industry is something that ARG is very interested in and it forms part of our archive (we have a small building industry collection of company literature pamphlets / company brochures, official histories, files on prefabricated houses and several thousand letter-headed note paper from the 1950/1960s).

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
