Hi Chas

There are a few of your fellow countrymen on the forum and as Al has pointed out, some good threads on the BCATP airfields in Canada too.

I hope you enjoy the forum and welcome to AiX

Thanks for the welcomes :)

Thanks Hawkeye, a joint visit or two would be great, Graeme and I are both Army so we're grateful for any help and info from people more knowledgable than us about the RAF.

And thanks too Noel for the email with the Thor info, all those extra images are great. We're in Thorne, just outside Doncaster, not far from you at all.

We got interested in Thor due to our links with Driffield. Graeme has always been interested in aircraft and I got interested in Thor about 8 years ago, but it's only the last couple of years that we've really started to research it and all the sites.

Hi all I am a disabled man now living in Loughborough, but originally from Southend On Sea, I was brought up in Southend On Sea and always had a good interest in Southend Airport for many years, I even attended the Air Training Corp (1312) at the airport, I used to go to the airport with a friend and we used to sit up on a Pillbox on the railway property up by the earth sound barrier taking the numbers of the planes as they landed or taxi'ed round to the main buildings to load or unload passengers. We did this many times until either the local police or British Transport Police making us leave. This carried on for many years until we moved out of the area to Basildon, but it did not stop my interest in the airport. Later on in life I got an interest in all the old airfields in Essex and started looking around, finding the old RAF Hornchurch also at Willingale, Silver End and Bradwell, visiting all the locations to see what remained. Even though I am disabled I still have a good interest in not only the Essex airfields but now the old airfields in Leicestershire, so this forum is just the thing for me. :D
