You could try posting this the RAF Commands forum as well. That forum is extremely good at supplying information on RAF/RCAF and indeed all commonwealth aircrew ect.
You will need to register, but I am sure some of the very well informed people on there will be able to assist. It sometimes baffles me as to how much information they have access to!

Some other things you could try - the RAF Air Historical Branch are usually very helpful to relatives and may be able to either provide you with some information themselves or point you to other organisations who may help.

Welcome niall, you are fortunate to be living in 'Bomber County' still plenty to see in respect of WW2 airfields.

many thanks for the replys , can honestley say great place to live lincolnshire if you like ww11 airfields ,did have a ride upto the old raf ingham site the other day theres a public footpath on one of the peri tracks ,

As Im ex RAF I would suggest trying the RAF records office also known as PMC. It was at RAF Innsworth, but as Innsworth has closed I dont know where its located now. Another source may be the Veterans Agency (he amy still be alive and drawing a military pension), and its located at Norbreck just outside Blackpool.

I am in the process of getting hold of the service records of my great uncle but I was wondering if anyone may have come across something in their research.
He was William John Constable, Sgt (nav) 1394740. died 20/02/1944 buried in Ashbourne cemetary.
I know from his letters he was stationed at RAF Ashbourne but very little else is forthcoming. The family account is that his plane crashed at or near Ashbourne and the rest of the crew due to their family wishes were buried at their respective homes.
The grave does not list any sqd. and to date I have been unable to find any other references to him.
I have a number of his letters some of which tell of his impressions of RAF Ashbourne, none flattering.
His last letter is dated just prior to Xmas 1943 so it is quite possible he was posted elsewhere, but for now I am going on the assumption he was still at Ashbourne considering his grave is there.

As a relative the RAF Air Historical Branch is a good starting point .

They will either have the service records and also any relevant crash records- or they will know where they may be accessed.
They are usually very helpful to relatives.
