Well its close, in 1993 we had a bloke at Cranwell who had been an Air Signaller on Sunderlands in Singapore. In fact he flew on the last ever RAF Sunderland flight.
Welcome drummond, any particular airfield interests?
What trade were you in the military?
For the first question, I guess it is just nostalgia. I have always admired the building architecture and site layout of the wartime expansion airfields. (I believe that there were about 43). Someone had exceptional vision back in the 1930s. Also, for the time when aicraft had polished aluminium!
For the second question, I was Eng Branch, with OM 15 or Skydrol to hand.
Hi, I am a member of WW2Talk and have been thinking of joining here for a while. Seems like a friendly forum and just the sort of place I am looking for.
Obviously being from Hornchurch the former airfield there is my prime interest but I am also interested in airfields generally.
I have some information which I hope to share with other members and I will be asking quite a few question when I get into the swing of things. Please forgive me if I ask a lot of things already answered - a pointer to previous posts/threads would be very useful!
Looking forward to some interesting exchanges here.
