Hi, I am a member of WW2Talk and have been thinking of joining here for a while. Seems like a friendly forum and just the sort of place I am looking for.
Obviously being from Hornchurch the former airfield there is my prime interest but I am also interested in airfields generally.
I have some information which I hope to share with other members and I will be asking quite a few question when I get into the swing of things.
Looking forward to some interesting exchanges here.

Mike

Greetings Mike,

Good to see someone-else from my ol' hunting ground !

Looking forward to hearing from you 'chiming-in'...
(as I tend to only visit here once in a while, tho' I'll spend more time on here in the Winter !)

I used to live at the St.Albyns farm end of the base, but on the Mungo-Park side, in the Whybridge cachment.

Were you there in Oct' 98 when they shut down the (then) Travis-Perkins end of Rainham-Rd due to an unearthed bomb from a KG.3 Dornier Do.17 ? (IIRC, it was '98).

BTW, I was also a member of Hornchurch IPMS when I lived there (16 + years).

I was in the RAF from '47 - '50, stationed at Padgate,Yatesbury,Bassingbourn,Waterbeach and Burtonwood. With a stint in Butterworth Malaya in between.
During the war I lived less than half a mile from Hornchurch aerodrome. So I knew it well, both in its original form and after it was extended to cater for bigger planes such as Wellies, I suppose.

Cheers,
Dennis.

Hi canberra, my trade was air wireless mechanic - as you may have picked up from one of my stations being Yatesbury.
I went straight from the school to RAF Butterworth (Penang Malaya), I was the only AWM there. I was taken to a big tin workshop filled up with "duff" TR1143's and was told to fix this lot!

Welcome gladden, at Butterworth you would have been living in the old thatched 'bashas' Were your TR1143's inhabited by termites?

Welcome to the forum. I have seen a website that has crests and badges but I doubt there will be one for Longbenton. If only I kept a link for it!
