Its just that i have been past the remains of some surviving remains of WW2 airfields and was thinking if they would serve today as makeshift airfields/emergency runways that would be capable of handling the likes of modern planes such as the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-22 etc other than the active RAF Stations across the country. Im also suprised of how many existed in the UK.

Yes, well over 600, although I couldn't say, off the top of my head, how many had hard runways.
