Welcome aboard H58, even if you were a "queue-jumper"!!. I was a single-trade mechanic and earned my tapes the hard way!!! Off back down to the old place next week as it happens, shadow of it's former self sadly.
I was a member of the USAF team that built the contingency hospital at RAF Little Rissington. We then went on to survey other sites with an eye to setting up something similar. I've visited probably 20 airfields over the 3 years I was based at Little Rissington (1981-84) and did early work on RAF Bicester, RAF Nocton Hall, RAF Feltwell, and RAF Upwood. The other sites were too numerous to remember and I only recall those that I actually worked on.
We have fond memories of living at 8 Smith Barry Circus at RAF Little Rissington.
Hi Eric
Welcome to the forum !
Funnily enough I only visited Rissington twice...the first time was 1981/82 in a Bulldog...we did a low pass along the runway as part of exercise 'safe haven' - ie trying to find a usable runway in case Abingdon was attacked
The second time was to retrieve a glider (1990) a couple of fields away from Rissington, the glider belonged to a nice american guy and it was such a rough track to the field ...boy I was glad I was driving his car (SAAB 99)
