I'd like to say hello, i've just joined this site as i'm trying to find out more about the airfeilds in Lancashire.
Mostly near where i live in Blackpool but, coming from manchester i've got a very big interest in wartime airfields and aircraft and any info i find out i'd like to share with everyone on here.
Welcome Tomka 71 and hope you enjoy the forum. No doubt you've already found the sections on north-west airfields - we'd welcome any updates on airfields in the area.
Squires Gate is on your doorstep. Warton just down the road. Inskip further south and Woodvale then on to Speke and then east to Manchester taking in Burtonwood. All discussed on AiX.
Halifax II W1169:S was the aircraft my father flew the vast majority of his ops in whilst he was part of 462 Sqn RAAF in the Middle East. It went on to complete over 50 ops before being struck off charge in 1943 - no mean feat for an aircraft whose engines were overhauled in the Canal Zone! W1169 had also been polished to within an inch of its life by the ground crew; my father reckoned that it was a good 10 miles per hour faster than most of 462's other Hallies!
