Actually his military record shows that in November of 1918 he was seconded for service with the newly-formed Royal Air Force , and assigned to the 253 Squadron, RAF Bembridge. He is listed as an Observer Officer, placed in charge of the payroll department. Latter he attended navigation school. The photo of him in his uniform - ignore the date since he was still with the RFA in 1915.

He returned to the RFA after the RAF disbanded and left the service with the rank of Captain. He joined the RFA in 1905 and went to France with the BEF where he fought in the early battles from Mons to Second Ypres.

Unfortunately there is virtually nothing at Waltham of the wartime airfield, yes all the hangars are there plus the squadron memorial . . . . .

Canadian P/O Ken Harvey and his crew were one of the first crews posted in when 100 Squadron reformed, they flew their first op. in early March.
The crew flew approx. 20 Ops from Waltham, i say approx. because they turned back early on one op. so i not 100% sure if it counted.
Seems they were posted to 97 sqdn. early August.
Their usual aircraft was JA-G, ED815 then later it changed to HW-G.
