we sure could post something in the memorial section. Would you like me to create a new post in that section or would you like to go ahead with it? I do have a picture showing the design of the plaque which we used to get prices if it is of interest
If you start the thread off there and keep us updated that would be great, I will be following it with interest
Hi JeromeC, Many thanks for all that information and the link...excellent. Regards including the age of those killed upon the plaque, it's what I have been saying for years. All ages [where known] should be shown to let everyone see just how young these people were who gave their lives for our freedom. Best wishes with your research and dedication for this well-deserved memorial. Paul.
Hi Peter. No other airfields, but worked later, after promotion, at Scottish ATC Centre located adjacent to Prestwick Airport. I missed working at Prestwick Airport in the tower, but the grade I was promoted to didnt work in Control Towers at Airports. Could have waived promotion and stayed at Prestwick Airport, but needs must and one needed the extra money being newly married. Also the USAF base closed about 1966 around the time I moved, and quite a few jobs we did around the airfield were taken over by electricians and other agencies, and although still a place of aviation interest and still is with plenty of military traffic still calling.it was not quite the place of interest it was when USAF was resident there. Still get C130's in and RAF VC10 Tankers plus USAF C17's too plus other Military traffic too. Civilwise mostly Ryanair B737's monopolise the place. So still plenty of traffic. I did RAF Square bashing at Bridgnorth did you too. Kind Regards.
Just a quick hello to introduce myself! I'm Mark live in Essex, found this forum by accident whilst trying to find out some info on an old airfield in Essex. I noticed you have RAF Thorney Island listed and there seems to be a lot of blanks about this place. I served with the army there for 5 years and over that time whilst on duty got to explore places off limits to walkers and the general! public! Over the weekend I'll type up what I know and post in the thread for you! There's some pretty interesting things and I may have the answer to a few questions already asked in the thread!
