The 'Introduce yourself' Thread

Welcome to AiX StuartBr, not much in the way of airfield defences at Stanton Harcourt which, presumably, relied on the Stop Line in the southern hemisphere on which pillboxes run along the river bank.

Peter, I must admit I'm not really up to speed on airfield defences. Most of my research and knowledge is on the stopline system.
I suspect that you are correct though, GHQ line red which runs along the Thames is less than a mile from Stanton Harcourt. Another close airfield, Kingston Bagpuize is on the other side of the stopline (just), not sure if that had any specific defences?

As with Stanton H, Kingston Bagpuize was largely protected by off airfield area defence posts to the north and east.

Everyone, I have visited this site before and found it very interesting I work at Bristol Airport (Lulsgate) as an Airside Operations Officer with nearly 30 years experience airside and look forward to contributing to this site in a time sadly, when some of our airfields are closing.
Bristol Filton and RAF Lynham will close soon in this part of the world

Hi Jim just read your thread & yes it very sad to hear that those airbases are closing that you mentiond .
I supose its inevitable in the current economic climate but even still its the history that these airfilds have made is coming to an end .

Hi Jim - welcome to AiX. Norwich Paul and I visited Lulsgate a few years ago to look at the remaining fighter pens. Being a couple of extremely dubious looking characters we were securely frisked before being allowed airside. (We were very impressed with the security at the time). It might have been you . Hope you've signed the Filton petition mentioned on the appropriate page.
