Welcome to AiX oldbluenose,

as an ex RAF Debden resident (Bomb Disposal) (1964) I worked tasks at Rattlesden, Andrews Field, Stradishall, Ridgewell and Nuthampstead. All within striking distance of Saffron Walden

Hello all,

Another new member here, glad to see the site is up and running again. My name is Mike Cox, I believe I met a few of you at the Shorts Tunnels visit at the end of March.
I've been interested in military airfields and bunkers since I was about 12, when I joined ARG in the mid 90's and then later Subbrit in about 2004.
Other interests include AFV modelling, military radio and Cold War reenactment.

Mike

Welcome to AiX Mike, do you have any specific interests related to WW2 airfields especially in the Hertford area?

Welcome Mike, I hope you had a good trip to the Rochester Tunnels, sadly I couldn't make that one as I had prior engagements. Are you coming to the Digby / Thorpe Camp trip this Sunday?

Hi Mike - and a nice surprise to find out where your forum name originated. My blood ran cold when I saw MOX, as I was unfortunately a contractor in this project around 1998. One of the very worst I ever did:

Mr Wicks confessed that a new MOX plant at Sellafield, built amid great controversy at an original cost of £473m, had comprehensively failed to work. Originally designed to produce 120 tons a year of "mixed oxide" (MOX) nuclear fuel – it had in fact managed only 5.3 tons in five years of operation. In practise, the facility has cost more than £1.2bn, confirming its status as the nuclear industry's most embarrassing white elephant and one of the greatest failures in British industrial history, losing the taxpayer £90m a year.

I won't hold that against you and a warm (but not blue glowing) welcome :D.

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite

Mox I seem to remember that your claim to fame, was that you were the youngest member of ARG. Your mum and you came round my house to get you membership back when I was editor or chairman all those years ago. Hope your mum is well?

Welcome to the forum Mike. Sadly I was unable to make the Shorts trip and had to pull out at last minute otherwise you would have had the dubious pleasure of meeting me :)
