Hi Mike, welcome aboard and what a fantastic collection of vehicles, the Mighty Antar is one of my all time favourite vehicles! Be great to hear/see more about them in the vehicles thread.
Did you get pics of any of the buildings you worked on, such as the Coningsby tower demolition?

I am excited to find this site. I've been working on my family history and am really hoping to discover more photos and information about James T Stewart II (my grandfather) and other family members as well. I grew up with a father and grandfather in the USAF, with my grandfather having been with the 508 bomb squadron, 351 bombardment group out of Polebrook. I know he flew with Clark Gable, too. It can be tricky to find information on line, however, since he shared the name with the actor Jimmy Stewart (and apparently would frequently receive the actor's fan mail, signing autographs on behalf of the actor and thinking this was a very funny thing to do.)

I would really like to talk with people who have photos, and also maybe some veterans who have personal stories of their experiences and any experiences with my grandfather. There is also a photo somewhere of a plane that he crash landed when he ran out of gas at the runway. I don't have this photo but would love a copy. I'm sure in my zillion boxes of family history, perhaps I have some photos that would be of interest to someone else as well.

No, very little by way of photographs, but I did find a nice map left behind by the RAF. I was also involved in a small way with the new control tower, in as much as we put in all the handrails for the stair cases. I was there the day after they had smashed on of the reverse slope , electrically heated windows. They were lifting in in by crane, on suction pickup tool. The wind caught it and swung it into the scaffolding, The glass didn't hit the scaffolding, but the release lever for the vacuum cups did. I am told it was a very expensive mistake and that is why all involved were very terse, uncommunicative and decidedly pee'd off that day.

I have obvoiusly got lots of pictures of the Antar in my ownership, but also a few of her in the days she was at Cardington. I have shots of collecting her from Cardington, and also shots of some of the runway test gear I did not purchase.

In due time I will put them up and try to tell what I know of the RAF , its (nine or more) Antars and runway testing.

I forgot I also owned for a while a 30 Ton Crane trailer that was one of 20 built for RAF to work behind their RAF Scammell Constructors. Again this was ex ACB, and later Runway went testing.

Here though is the Antar with Dyson Trailer, in the sort of guise she was bought for the Airfield Construction Branch.

and here are my Matador(centre of photo, and Antar, just to the right of it, spare wheel being most visible, inside No2 shed at Cardington. That hanger will make any vehicle look small!

And i will put more Heathrow Airport stuff up later but as a starter here is my Douglas Transporter, outside the battery charging shed, in Chrome yellow and Parallel runway logo livery, towards the end of her time on Heathrow Airport.
