Hi everyone,

A bit about me, well I'm a research scientist in Exeter, UK. I volunteer with a youth charity with a very significant air twist. My grandfather was in the RAF during WWII, this coupled with my general interest in history has made me spend a some time over the last year or so looking for information about RAF Exeter and other ex-military sites around Devon, with little to no luck, until I stumbled across this website a few days ago.

I'm staggered by the wealth of knowledge and interest show here and hope that I will be able to contribute even if it is just photos of installations...

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Please ask him if he knew Wilf Newman, trained as a pilot in Canada, served as a Navigator on the same squadron as your father at West Wratting.

Denis, had the folks over for a visit last night and showed dad your inquiry. Sorry to say the chaps name didn't ring any bells ??

Can you tell me whose crew he belong to and what flight ?

Cheers for now

Aircanuck

My name is Nick Sawyer.
My main interest is RAF vehicles and equiment pre 1970. I joined the RAF in 1980 as a GSE Mechanic and served three years mainly at 16 MU.
Six years ago, I purchased a ex RAF Land Rover, 1952 and have since restored it back to its 52 spec. I have been collecting interesting items and photographs to display at shows from the early post war era, not easy. There are plenty of WW2 items, but the late 40s and 50s stuff has been scrapped.
This is an on going interest which will hopefully keep me busy for some years.
This is a great site. Its good to know Iam not the only person who is interested in what some people think is a strange interest.

Hi Ted. Good to hear from an ex inmate. I don`t suppose Stafford had chaged much from the time you were there. I did ask for the posting as it was my first and not too far from home. It was a good place to learn the trade but not much action.
I will post some photos of the Land Rover when I can work out how to do it.The files I have are too large apparently.

Regards.
