Al, this site did have a spammer posting on it this morning.

yes.. unless you moderate all posts first there's no way to prevent the odd one getting through, but thanks to a keen eyed member that post didn`t last long. It's a constant battle, but by and large if you make it unprofitable for them they tend not to persist. Unfortunately this does make things a little more restrictive for nice people...

I have read it several times and it still seems to be having a go at AIX, but in view of the ambiguity I will reserve judgement. But it's indisputably a very odd way to introduce yourself, and not a good way to make friends and influence people!

I suppose the odd spammer will always get through now and then, but as forums go this one is rarely bothered by them.

The weekends are best if you plan on walking around the runways, thors, peri tracks etc etc as the army are out carrying bomb disposal exercises as Al pointed out and theres also RAF Police Dog Training taking place on there also during the weekdays. If the flags aren't flying then you should be okay for a wonder around. I must admit the Army did come out and question me on my last visit & told me i really shouldn't be on there but let me carry on once i explained that i had a general intrest.. There was also a big new fence being erected on my last visit which stretched from the Midlands Radar Site across a section of the main runway and over to the Control Tower end of the Technical Site.

Well he certainly got us all talking. Its like e-mail they can be taken in a way that was not necessarily meant. I must admit I couldn't quite tell where the man was coming from. Oh well takes all sorts. Happy days !!

I would like to welcome you to the site.And can I just point out(if you havent noticed already!) that some people on the site have very thin skins and find offence in everything, and yes I have the scars to prove it!!!!!

Well I suppose someone has to play Devil's Advocate. It may as well have been you.

I don't think that our reactions can be considered contentious, as in any pocket of the internet anywhere the OP would be considered to have "Flamed", whether it was aimed at us or not. So personally I think that a "Welcome", whilst a noble sentiment, is entirely misplaced.

On the occasion that I visited, with Jerry, he went to the guardhouse first and asked if it was ok to look around, and they didn't mind. The man on the gate with a gun (at the main base entrance) seemed a bit confused though!
