Welcome Gareth, not sure I understand your post though as we have 2,192 members who survived the initiation process, many of whoem are not ex-RAF!

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Gareth
I also fully understand the difficulties you've had. I had tremendous problems being accepted by this site and that of The Airfield Construction Group. Perseverance does pay in the end! I can appreciate that there are security concerns but surely registration needn't be such a test - it's easy enough on most sites.

First hello to everyone. What a fantastic site this is.
I have had a lifelong interest in industrial & military history and this site has given me much to study.
I live in Shropshire so I am spoilt for places to study!
The defence of Britain overlay for Google shows so much.
These are probably FAQ but
Is there a picture index of airfield buildings by Drg No?
Where can I get a copy of an airfield plan? (Atcham)
I have some recent pics taken at Atcham which I will upload tomorrow
E-pens & pillboxes complete with M/G mounts
By the way were these for Lewiss guns?
Best wishes Colin :D

That's nice, join a forum and with your first post have a go at the people running the site!! We don't consider ourselves "elitist" and no we don't all know one another. Your post is very rude and completely unnecessary, if you have criticisms of our registration process or indeed any suggestion about AiX these should be raised in a polite way, not via a tirade.

It tries us all, Gareth. But unfortunately on here, as with many other forums, it is necessary to keep out the army of spammers. We certainly don't get any spammers on here so it's working...

Anyway, it certainly isn't elitist on here... they continue to allow me to hang around!
:D

North Luffenham is an incredible place to look round (that is, the parts of the runway that are basically abandoned but used at certain times for bomb-disposal exercise (and yes, also police dog training)). The Thor pads are excellent, not to mention all the modern military clat that literally just lies around as props for exercises.
Local people walk their dogs there, and kids play on the planes, that's how open it is...
