It was my favourite airplane as a boy. When I had to come up with a username it was the first thing that came to mind. I guess those pictures took me back - I hadn't seen them in 50 years. They'd been sitting in the lost and found.
Dear All,
I am a British ex-pat, scientist and private pilot, currently resident down here in southern Florida, but a native of sunny East Anglia. As a child, I cycled (and persuaded my long-suffering dear Mother to drive me) around many then still relatively intact former air-fields. Nearby RAF. Debden still held its annual Gala, Duxford hosted the Battle of Britain filming and many sites had plenty to be explored, with much still remaining to be discovered. I actually have an old rusty Lee Enfield .303 and a 25lb. bomb casing, both recovered from such sites. How I wish that I could have carried that old RAF. Gravely airfield sign back then...
My primary interest is airfield buildings, especially control towers (my ambition is to retire eventually to a restored one) and I feel that a field guide to such buildings would be of great help...
Any way, Please feel free to keep in touch and I shall hope to meet more of you, during one of my annual pilgrimages home.
All the best,
Huw.
