I can play brilliant pool, unfortunately I require an 8-pint minimum to get to the brilliant point.
Anywhere up to that I am patchy, to say the least. And it's too far really as well!
I got offered 3 full size snooker tables cheap the other day, know anyone who wants one?
Hello,
Thanks for the warm welcome, sorry it's taken me a while to reply!
AiXAdmin - I hope to supply case studies on airfields as and when we complete works. Where Health & Safety/ security allows, I would really like welcome ARG members to a live site so that everyone can get a close feel as to the process of resurfacing a runway.
PETERTHEEATER - It's interesting to look closely at the WWII runways. Despite the fact that they were constructed quickly, a large majority of them are still in a very good condition. If you get the chance, there are certain slabs where depths of concrete appears 'reduced'. I wonder if this was due to saving materials?
norwichpaul - I will ask whether we have any historic information. My great aunt used was a secretary at Portland Cement, London during the 20's and 30's. Do you have any Redland/ Lafarge literature specific to airfields? I am very interested in seeing these.
I hope to speak to you all as I become more familiar with the site!
Al, I work with the guy that's OIC the club here, i'll ask. How much are we talking and where are they located?
I will get back in touch with the bloke and see if he still has them. He was talking about breaking them up and using the slate!
They would if still around be located in a place called Murrow.

It was (and still is) practice to user thicker slabs on the 'touch-down' stretch of a runway to resist the higher impacts of landing and then reduce the thickness along the take off/landing run lengths commensurate with anticipated all-up weight of user aircraft. That said, it was sometimes found necessary to increase slab thickness at certain points on the taxi-way to resist loads imposed by heavy bombers.
Hi Dave,
I was stationed on Masirah(as A medic) for six months in 1958.
I have lots pics from that time many of which are in colour. If you are interested just let me know as I have just finished tranfering all my colour slides onto my computer so I could easily email them to you.
Did you know that a book has been published upon the history of the Masirah railway?
Rds.

First, thanks to all the members for their response to my Hucknall Airshow pictures and for identifying the airplanes and especially the year. Good work Ossington. It turns out I was 9 years old at the time and crazy about airplanes.
I grew up in Derbyshire but got bit by the travel bug early on and ended up in the US. My nascent interest in Aviation lay dormant for many years till at the ripe old age of 33 I decided to learn to fly. I got bit again. I currently hold a US ATP with type ratings in BE-300, BE-1900, LR-JET and DA-50. With 10,000 hours of total time in the intervening years I accumulated 5,000 hours in Lear Jets and nearly 2,500 hours in the Falcon 900. The Falcon is a beautiful bird and takes you to some really nice places.
Most of my flying is in North America and the Caribbean. I have a little over 50 Atlantic crossings and it gave me great pleasure in September of 08 to fly into East Midlands (EGNX ) for the first time, coming full circle. Also I have a handful of Pacific trips, most memorably to Tokyo out of Anchorage overflying Petro to avoid stronger headwinds on the tracks. On a very dark night the lights of Petropavlovsk looked very reassuring but nonetheless glad we didn’t have to make a fuel stop.
