Loved that! Haven't seen it for ages! Just to chip in as a new member of less than a month I can definitely confirm that this is a VERY welcoming forum. Wow, what a fantastic response! I can see you are a fabulous bunch of people. I didn't mind being cuffed by the odd few (no offense intended in the use of the word 'odd', by the way.) I asked for it. As the for the rest of you I'd walk over broken glass just to have a cup of coffee with you... I am absolutely thrilled I landed up in this forum and I thank you for the welcome. I shall explore and enjoy. And I promise to pull my tongue from my cheek. Some of the time, anyway.
I even managed to register with the Airfield Development Group in the end and installed the (free!) Coningsby airfield scenery. It's stunning. So all in all it feels great to be alive and I salute you all and this clearly excellent forum.

Correct, certainly not directed to AiX/ARG. My apologies where necessary. I should explain. It went like this: AVSIM announced the Coningsby FSX airfield add-on and I duly went to The Airfield Construction Group site where I encountered what I thought was an over-engineered registration process. I didn't really mind that per se but when they asked an Anti-bot question that called for an answer to a quiz-type question - "Who manufactures the RAF Tucano" I had to leave the registration site to find out and duly entered 'Short' but it failed. Several times. So did 'Short Brothers'. All this was complicated by the need to resit the 'Confirmation' task involving the interpreting of diagrammatically presented digits. To cut to the chase, in due course the 'answer' turned out to be 'Shorts'. My answer proved to a tad too short.

There was no apparent way to contact the ACG administrator to ask what I was doing wrong. Hence my irritation which was meant to come across as good-natured. On searching again I found AIE which appeared to bear the same imprimatur as the ACG site. My post was something of a plea in the hope that some of the same admin personnel might inhabit both sites and see my point.

Ironically, when I went back to the ACG site with a fresher brain and tried more permutations of the word Short I got myself registered and was able to download the Coningsby file. I was distinctly humbled to find it was supplied free of charge and of high integrity. I feel I owe them and you something an apology and can only admit that in the same way as one should not fly when utterly fatigued, nor should one send off a playful, though arguably inflammatory (yet please, not in the least bit malicious) post. The reciprocal humour and graciousness with which some received it is an utter credit to the calibre of this forum, and at the same time renews my faith in human nature.

I shall feel not the least bit slighted should the forum moderator choose to delete this thread. If you choose to leave it stand I will have no option but to bask in the dubious celebrity it has afforded your humble servant,

Welcome to AiX Gareth.

I think the problem that you faced at the ACG site is indicative of the situation today that any site operator allowing public access to downloads etc. will face.

Where site security is concerned ,they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.Whatever happens they will put someone's nose out of joint.

As an aside - I used to do addons for FS9 - did Upper Heyford, Greenham and "Bentwood" back in 2005 ...I think they are still available on AVSIM.

There's a few of us but I won`t delete it for sure. We too have found it necessary to ask a question as part of the registration process and understand that even the "simplest" of questions if not correctly set up in the admin panel can lead to all sorts of issues with people that actually know the answer - In their case I too would have entered Short - (and then Shorts) if that didn`t work.

It then ocurred to me that I don`t know if Short or Shorts is correct so I had a trawl through my "boxes" and found a Flight Manual for the 360 and a sales brochure for the Tucano - both of which I was given when attending a course at their factory. In both cases they are clearly identified as Shorts - ie Shorts 360 and Shorts Tucano.

However digging around a little I note that the ill fated Seamew was indeed the Short Seamew but a 1969 company ad for the Skyvan describes it as the Shorts Skyvan. So it seems they changed their name in the mid sixties.

However in answer to the question "who the manufactures the Tucano " as posed for the purposes of anti-spamming measures my view is that it should have been set to accept either Short or Shorts.

Gosh this is fun isn`t it...

Blimey, when I first joined AiX there seemed to be nobody in this part of N.W.Norfolk who was into aircraft & bases.

Incidentally, have we got any 1/2-decent 'Pool' players who live within driving distance of Hunstanton ???????

Reason I ask, is coz I'm in a local Pool-team that plays in a N.W.Norfolk league......we usually field a team of six players (the req'd minimum, as TWELVE frames are played).....but the other night at an "away" leg there were only FOUR of us turned up (so we automatically lost FOUR frames before we'd even started !)

Just sounding-out ANY potential candidates ????????
