Hi Mark and welcome

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

I felt we were being watched... Welcome Tim every time I think I know something someone on here proves me wrong. Still I was at Alconbury twice, Mildenhall and Lakenheath and bounced around the rest of USAF bases in Europe whilst TDY on several occasions.
Regards
Mark

Welcome Mark,

I would not have thought that, where ever one lives in the British Isles, you would be far from some WW2 military relic. So, I switched on all my Placemarks in Google Earth to see what was of interest in your location and was surprised to see very little! Just the former Royal Ordnance Factories at Gathurst and Radcliffe.

But, it's enthusiasm that counts so keep your eye on AiX which covers all manner of things airfield related!

Welcome to AiX Tim, especially in your capacity as a structural engineer with experience in repair of historic buildings. I feel sure that you can make useful contributions. Did you read our Orford Ness thread?

Hi Mark, I'm not that far from the land of the pie-shop ;)

Whilst there might not be a lot IN Wigan there is plenty within a short distance...HMS Ringtail, numerous pillboxes/defended positions, HAA batterys etc. especially over towards the west coast
