I think Works (AP3???) gave a table that implied this but to confirm this I need to move a lot of files! If I recall it was linked to the B&GS and AOS locations.

Re the Silloth 200 yd range there are remains still extant today, no ancilliary buildings survive but most of the outer walls remain. It is quite easy to find .303 tracers etc here and the internal earthen banking remains. In recent years the inner section has been cleared of overgrowth which has opened up the view of the site.
See attached pic taken 07-04-13 to give you some idea of what is left..

Regards.

Gordon.

Thanks Gordon. Nice to see that something remains to tantalise the unenlightened hiker.

It seems that Holbeach was down to have a 200 yd MTR in 1942. As will a lot of these maps you can never tell if it went ahead or not!

No obvious remains visible on maps or sat views, not even a shadow so probably not built. Not keen on the high level live bombing target being riddled with bullets:)?

I have yet to find a summary of the likely dangers at the extremes of the danger area. It would make a great temperature chart.

I don't recall Holbeach being mentioned as a possible site although it would probably have been referred to as Sutton Bridge. There was an almost complete set of track and parts held at Sutton Bridge to be used as spares for the operational ones. Since the plan was dated 1942 I suspect it was for USAAF use rather than RAF as they had an awful lot of air gunners to keep in practice!

Does anybody have any aerial photos of Skipsea/Low Skirlington MTR before the caravan site was built?

Wow, excellent PNK that's her, the farm house is the only thing there at that time on the main road more or less opposite the camp site entrance as it is now! Any more?

What year is the above PNK?

Just curious as can you see the dark area above the MTR near the cliff edge with tracks going to & from it, might be my imagination but could they be rocket blast marks on stationary targets? Thus agreeing with my theory about the 1949 pathe film being here what we were discussing the other day? Remember I said the Sherman parts we found were between the MTR & that cut away in the cliff although the cutaway isnt there then but looking at this image of then & now looks roughly same place.

What do you think?
