Though there was always the possibility that he was a student at the Balliol college Oxford.

Hello everybody

i'm John Anderson and live on the Cornish coast near Tintagel. i have a background in civil aviation, but have an interest in the FAA, bombing ranges, WW2 airfields and other related sites in the south west. i am fortunate in that my house overlooks the remains of the FAA bombing range/satellite airfield at Treligga (it is surprisingly intact). i am also within a few miles of the remains of the unique RAF Davidstow Moor. i have already come across some fascinating information on the site and hope to be able to make my own contributions to the site in the future.

John, welcome to the forum. Buccaneer66 has touched on my new found interest in bombing ranges. Curiously, I was looking at Trevose Head (Gulland Rock), Port Quin and St Austell ranges only yesterday, with the help of Cornwall & Scilly HER.

Welcome John, hope you enjoy it on here.

Did you write a couple of features on Davidstow Moor and Treligga for Airfield Review a few years ago, or am I getting confused?

I'm sure you've found the thread on Davidstow already but I don't think we have one on Treligga. Is the range quadrant tower still standing? Please feel free to post any updates on your 'patch'.

Peter

Welcome John,

I did some survey work for MAFF on Treligga some years back. Still got a 20mm shell case that a colleague found there.

Enjoy the forum!

John/PNK - Did they really have a bombing range off Port Quin?? I didn't know that. Dived that area a couple of times blissfully unaware.

Memories........... I've forgotten what they are !!

Hello all , my name is Paul , I have worked as an aircraft engineer at Birmingham Airport for 23 years and have basically grown up around the place.

I'm interested in old airfields, buildings ,vehicles (particularly fire appliances) etc , basically any sort of aviation nostalgia and history!

Hi everybody. My name's John and I live in Tonbridge.

I've always loved old Airfields. When I was at school in the mid 70s I often used to crawl over Polebrook & Deenethorpe (God how I wish I'd had a camera then ).

There's also a family link. My uncle was killed in July 1940 flying as a Wireless Op/Mechanic on a Sunderland Flying Boat based at Sullom voe, whilst my wife's uncle was killed flying out of Grimsby/Waltham with 100 Sqn in May 1944 - I have an anecdote about this which I'll post on the Grimsby site in a while.

If anybody's interested I'm always up for a trip round an airfield (and I'm fairly handy with a metal detector).

Best wishes,
John
