Hi All.
My name is Ade.I have been meaning to join this forum for a while..
My main interests apart from ww2 aviation are ww2 reenactment.
Airfields are fascinating places, and whilst travelling on holiday, pleasure etc,I try to "take one in",usually a little detour or plan a journey that takes me past one, much to the annoyance to my better half:p.
Its disappointing that so many are disappearing rapidly.
My favorite is Llanbedr,I just wish I could win the lottery.....
My name is John and I am just one of six directors of a newly formed limited company called Bunker Thirteen (RAF Blakelaw Preservation Group), whose aims are simply to try and take over care, restore and open up the former RAF 13 Group Fighter Command HQ Bunker. Of course this is easier said than done, we have been battling for a little over two years with the housing developer who currently owns it and has no plans for the future of the bunker.
Over the two years that Bunker Thirteen has been together we have gathered a vast amount of support from large organisations and people. These include:
Yorkshire Air Museum
Beamish Open Air Museum
RAF Uxbridge, Battle of Britain Bunker
Newcastle Branch of RAFA
BritArch (British Architecture)
Wings over Northumberland
Historical Branch of RAF
Swing Jive Entertainments
Shipton Cold War Bunker
Scotland’s Secret Bunker
Newcastle upon Tyne City Council (Historical Buildings Dept)
We also have a long list of Aircrew Associations fully supporting us. The list grows daily.
Bunker Thirteen runs two groups on Facebook and a forum as well as a website. On these you can view updated information and recent photography from the project. Anyone is welcome to view the sites and join us as Friends of Bunker Thirteen.
