Been round a few airfields in northamptonshire.Mainly the memorials and what i could see from the road.Dont want to upset any irate landowners :o:eek: by not getting permission from them.

You'll find there are a lot of public footpaths across them & most of Desborough peri track is public footpath although the landowner don't mind people walking all the way around & up the old runways.

My name is Jim Coker, 30 years old and currently serving at RAF Wittering.
I am completely new to the study of the airfields so please forgive me if im unable to correctly identify some buildings, got a lot to learn.
Im particulary interested in the history of Wittering with a view to recreate the base in 3d for Microsoft's Flight sim X. As it stands my goal is to recreate three periods of Wittering's history. The first scenery to be produced will be an up to date rendition, this I feel this would be the best place to start as many models can be used in earlier packages, with minor modifications.

If anyone has any details of Wittering, through the years, please get in touch, my goal is to produce an accurate rendition as much as possible and im hoping with help, it can be.

One final request, already posted in the 'Flight sim' section of the forum is a request for basic measurements of the airmens accomodation 'H' blocks. Im not fully trusting of measurements obtained from Google earth and im sure there's people out there with much better detail.

Welcome.

If you can't get the measurements from a building plan, go back to basics, use this technique.

Listopad, the methods in the picture are great, however option 1 is probably not advised in front of a barrack block, would possibly lead to many questions and/or being reported for suspicious activity and being marched off by the RAF coppers!!!

The project is in a very early state at the moment, but as soon as I have a little more, i'll post some screen shots.

Agreed, it would be a shame if another base was to close, although I suspect Wittering would make an ideal industrial estate with good links with the A1 and I wonder how many cars you could fit on a 9052 x 200 ft runway???
