Welcome to AiX Arrow28, are your photographs ground, aerial obliques or verticals or a mixture?

Hi I have in my possession a book called Cage Birds by H E Hervey, signed and containing a letter from Mr Hervey. Inside the book is a reference to Mr Hervey being the Squadron Leader who was Commanding Officer of No. 1 Glider Training Squadron in the 2nd World War. It suggests he was based at Thame, Haddenham where I believe there was an airfield. Does anyone know of an interested party? Kind regards, Trudy

Hi H E Hervey was in the First World War, not the 2nd as I previously stated. Thanks. Trudy:roll:

Great. If you can scan them you can put them on the forum in the respective threads for ease of search.

Hi Arrow,

The Cotswolds are my old stomping grounds having grown up around Cheltenham and the Cirencester area. Sadly I live abroad now but whenever I am home I try and visit a few airfields and look around my old haunts. :)

Hi Trudy,

H.E. Hervey (know to many as Tim) was indeed a pilot/observer during WWI with the No. 60 Squadron RFC and his book is about his time as a POW at the hands of the Germans and his numerous unsuccessful escape attempts.

After the war he was the Chief Flying Instructor at Dunstable Downs glider club but by the spring of 1940 he was recommissioned into the RAF and was responsible for establishing and then commanding No.1 Glider Training School.

Cage Birds is rare but not worth a great deal on it's own but signed and with a letter from the author may make it more desirable. Depends on the content of the letter really.

Oddly I was watching an old bbc series last night called Reaching For The Skies, some of you may remember it. There was a brief interview with H.E.Hervey RFC. I then log onto AiX this morning and see this, how bizzare!
