Welcome (back?) to the forum. I have only been to Harrowbeer. It was in the early 70s but I didn't know it was an airfield at the time. My main recollection of that area is disused railway orientated and in the Plymouth area. The dining car on the train down was an old late 1930's job and it still sported the late GWR logo.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
I've gradually been getting hold of the 1940's maps from the RAF Museum, and as well as the Blackdown Hill sites I've also got the maps for Exeter and Winkleigh. It's a bit of an uphill struggle for me as I don't drive, but I've made quite a few visits to other defence sites, such as my part of the Taunton Stop Line, various coastal defences, RAF Poltimore, RAF Branscombe Radar Station, etc. Tis an on-going project.
Daveg4otu...I've just had a mooch around your website. Some great info on there, especially about Branscombe which has flummoxed me for years. I knew there was an airfield somewhere there but had no idea where. Thanks for the link...I'm now de-flummoxed!
Oh, and I posted up a book in the research section. Devon Aerodromes In Old Photographs, which has been a great source of info and inspiration to me.
