hi my name is tom lyon. my mother in law was marjorie frost taylor whos husband was killed by the hitler youth in 1945 at huchenfeld. she went back to pforziem in 1995 to unvail a plaque to the airmen who were killed in march 1945.

I have a copy of the book ; The Plaque written by Renate Beck-Ehninger subtitled Letters To My English Godson . I have also been lucky enough to meet Johnny Wynne who presented a children's rocking horse to a nursery in Huchenfeld were the murders took place . The rocking horse was named 'Hope' . It was Johnny's crew , including Harold Frost , who were murdered that night in March 1945 .

Just got here and what a great site.
Loved aviation since early childhood spent on a few R.A.F. stations. Father in the R.A.F. Chef and part time fighter pilot, well, that's what the kids at school got told!
Grew up in East Anglia, Norwich, and Bungay, Suffolk.
went into the Merchant Navy after leaving school after the R.A.F. said I was over qualified for them.
Moved to Somerset in 1967 and still live there.
Learnt to fly in the late '70's at Dunkeswell, Devon, eventually becoming a part owner and director of Air Westward Ltd. the owners.
Flew mostly dropping skydivers for the R.N. and R.M. Skydiving club based on the airfield.
Main career was in the car body repair and classic vehicle restoration. The airfield ownership tended to keep me nearly broke, but there you are, at least we stopped it from becoming another trading estate.
Now retired due to health reasons caused by breathing paint and dust for nearly 40 years. 20 B&H a day probably did'nt help either!
I still play with r.c. model aircraft, and own a 1942 'jeep' restored by me some 12 years ago.

Hi, My name is Jane ( J4NE Zane in Second Life if you are familiar with it ) I have been given the task of building a representation of Biggin Hill in 1940, obviously with a small ammount of artistic licence owing to lack of space. I would be grateful for any information anyone has to offer, for example, when was the 'E' shaped building (Pilot training centre?) built?
I know all about the runways concreted March 1940, the new one laid 1942, the chapel - 1943 - 1946, the new one built 1951, and the Air traffic control tower around 1952 next to the old one. But can anyone tell me where the old, old tower would be prior to the new runway being built in 1942.

Thanks PNK, yes, the jeep is fun and I quite agree about the beemer drivers! I did toy with the idea of the .50 cal in the back, but mine is finished to represent the personal hack of Lt. Joe Kennedy jr. U.S.Navy (President Kennedy's elder brother) from when he was stationed at Dunkeswell during W.W.II flying P.B.4.Y.1. 'Liberators.
