Malcolm Giddings book on Ashbourne says a Whitley was lost on 20 Feb. when the engines gave trouble owing to severe icing near Lichfield. The crash came at 20.09hrs and while attempting a forced landing the tail struck some trees and the aircraft crashed killing the four crew members [no names are given ]. That looks like your one.
I can't find the crash in Peakland air crashes, the South by Pat Cunningham.

Just found this site a week or so back, glad to know I'm not the only person who gets excited to see a piece of obscure concrete or overgrown brickwork in a field/hedge/woods/etc! Have had a nose round quite a few of the airfields in this area, but appear to have missed loads of nuggets of pure WW2 concrete gold going on the photos that I've seen on here!

The chap I used who was excellent charged £50 + photocopying costs for researching the 103 squadron docs I was after for a 3 month period, amongst others it included the ORB AIR27 plus lots of appendices which was roughly 120 A3 pages, my total bill was around £100

One for Ted here: I see the spec shows the Hippo with a 12-volt electrical system. Unusual for a heavy, especially military and this role?
