I have moved the discussion on finds at Cowden to this thread as the recent posts were becoming more generic. I have left a link to this thread in the Cowden thread. Apologies if this causes a bit of confusion but it keeps things tidier.
There are two cowden beaches ,Summer Beach, & Winter Beach . Winter is when all the sand is stripped away and all you have is a boulder clay . Summer Beach is obviously when the sand is re deposited back on top of the clay up to a depth 7-8mtrs . Winter is best for beach combing . Oooooops shouldn`t have put that !!!

Im not sure if this subject has its own thread but maybe a good one to start ( albeit bits may be mentioned elsewhere on the site).
Has anyone got any info/stories/personal knowledge of things that have been found on WW2 airfields....
Apart from all the buildings has anyone found ( or heard) of things found as people have wandered/investigated these historic sites. Anything from UXBs ...pipemines...ammo...remains etc etc!
Mr Google obviously brings up numerous and interesting bits with newspaper reports etc but be great to find out more from you all!
One of my favourite aircraft the titanium tank buster , warthog . Good ole A10`s they seemed to go that slow that you would think they would drop out the sky . That 30mm cannon was something else !!

I was once exploring an old mine system (well trying to) we dug into the opening, and i squeezed in and wriggled forward a few metres. My mate started shouting at me to get out so i did, it was only on my way back out that i noticed a shell about 10 inches long, 4 wide (guesstimates) that was green with a yellow band round it. I couldnt get out fast enough. We debated calling the law as we shouldnt have been going down there in the first place. In the end we did, they didnt care that we were there but it got blown in situ and we never got to visit that section of that mine lol.....
If unsure, keep clear. Not worth mucking about with no matter how much you 'think' you know.
It is a Time Fuze, Nose for a shell. The 30 (seconds) graduation on the setting ring indicates that it was for Anti-Aircraft requiring a longer delay. If you PM me with the other markings I might be able to ID it.
