I have obtained a digital (PDF) copy of the archaeological report of Spitfires buried in crates at Mingdalon airfield post WW2.
The report runs to 290 pages and, unsurprisingly, debunks the story completely but with full explanations.
What is most interesting is not the debunking but the scientific explanation as to why eye witnesses recall things that never happened.
There are copyright implications prevent displaying in open forum but interested members are invited to PM me for further information.
The Bibliography on its own could divert me for weeks!

Even things that did happen change over time. A Streetview trip over old haunts from over 40 years ago show that my memory isn't what I thought it was especially as most buildings haven't changed that much. I suspect a lot of it was ignored by my memory.

Without wishing to boast but we have had a Spitfire fly over our back garden every day this week and most days in the previous weeks. Normally it is the same one (D-Day stripes) but last week we had one with the early war black and white undersides. Mostly it is the Biggin Hill based Kent Spitfire which I assume must be attending an event of some sort each time. If so business must be good so I hope it doesn't wear out too soon.

Shuttleworth's MK VC is making steady progress & should be back in the air over Old Warden in a couple of months. She fired up her engines for the first time in 12 years on the 25th April. I'm sure the last time she displayed in front of a public audience was at OW in 1996 although I could be wrong there. Either way, that return to the skies has been a long time coming.

I found another report which said the recovery team expects to go out in October 2017. And if you're still in any doubt one of those reports is the Daily Mail.
PS Wish this thread hadn't been combined as the Imaginary Burma Spits really was a separate topic from Real 100% Spits. Navigation in the thread's 45 pages is painful.
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite

The other day a documentary was on the "movies for men" channel about the Spitfire. The opening sequence showed what I think is Duxford, anyone know anything to confirm this? The opening sequence has been reversed, lots of left handed saluting and the aircraft serial backwards!
