Supermarine Spitfire

If those Spitfires were destined for Torch (North African invasion November 1942) they may have had stars even if they were RAF as I believe all participating aircraft wore them. I can't find any references to confirm that at present.

Now that I am only working in an office one day a week I get to be a home a lot more, although my wife keeps enquiring about insulated sheds! I have noticed a lot of air activity recently, particularly Spitfires. This morning we had three overflights in different directions with large enough gaps between them to assume it is not loitering. Possibly the same one but in the last 7 days we have had a fly by from south to north and later north to south on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. This, by the way, is after the unfortunate accident at Biggin Hill. It seems very strange to be in the 21st Century and having more Spitfires buzzing around the area than when I was born! We do get a lot of other vintage aircraft on a regular basis with Harvards and Yaks being the most freqeunt.

The reason for this apparent luck is, I believe, due to the location of navigational beacons at Biggin Hill and one north of the Thames (can't recall where) but having flown once at the controls I recall having to navigate back to the Biggin Hill one which gave you direction and distance.

This is getting ridiculous. Had two different ones yesterday (Monday) and four in formation today (Tuesday) Is there something going on that I seemed to have missed?

As I was writing this a very fast jet flew very low and fast over the garden, sounded like a Hawk! Cloudbase is very low so wondering if it was a private Hunter or similar flying VFR.

I am trying to work from home and having to keep running out is not ideal

I don't know how I missed this but the Spitfires and at least 1 Hurricane are gathering for three different massed fly pasts over parts of Kent to celebrate "The Hardest Day". The nearest will be only four mile from my house but I am working from home so can't really escape! Hopefully I will catch them on the way back north.

Sadly modern cameras are rubbish for quick shots. By the time mine has powered up and the zoom reached maximum any aircraft is long gone! Must dig out the old film camera
