Hello there . Q : I have never seen a cannon shell used in the spitfire neither a 50 cal but the bullet I found on the said area was blue with silver tip . My mother came up with the idea that the ammo was dumped from a returning fortress at Rougham . Thanks for answering so quickly .

If you were at Bicester in the 60s Petertheeater you might have seen two small boys (my brother and me) sat on the fence watching the gliders. I remember one Havard tug pilot wore a leather flying helmet and liked to land so low he dragged his cable across Skimmingdish Lane and through the hedge! (I often wondered if he pulled his tail off one day...). My father joined up there in 1938 when they flew Hawker Harts and I often went to watch the flying when I stayed with my grandmother in Bicester. I recall the Beverleys on the dump and our dad and us were sorely tempted to filtch a spinner as a souvenir, but we couldn't get it in the car!

Happy days!

Nigel

A 'silver' aluminium colour on the tip indicates Armour Piercing/Incendiary but , an overall blue body?
